(UNI) The Supreme Court rejected Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt's review petition against his conviction and sentence in 1993 Mumbai serial bomb blasts case.
Review petitions of six other accused including 72-year-old Zaibunissa Kazi were also dismissed.
A bench comprising Justices P Sathasivam and B S Chauhan in the brief order noted, 'no case is made out for review of the judgement of this court.'
Sanjay Dutt was sentenced to six years imprisonment by a TADA court which was reduced to five years by the Supreme Court.
Sanjay Dutt was given four weeks to surrender and was granted extension of four weeks to serve out 42 months of remaining sentence since he has already served out 18 months.
Now, Sanjay Dutt will have to surrender latest by May 15 to serve 42 months in jail.
He was found in possession of AK 56 and hand grenade which was later destroyed and thrown in the sea.
The main contention of Sanjay Dutt was that the confession made by him under TADA cannot be used against him for an offence under any other act including Arms act.
With this order, now Sanjay Dutt can file curative petition under article 142 of the Constitution and finally mercy petition before the President of India.
He was given four weeks extension on the grounds that he has to complete his shooting assignments and Rs 278 crore of the film industry was at stake. UNI
