PIL filed in Supreme Court challenging validity of food security ordinance

2 (UNI) A PIL challenging the validity of the Food Security Ordinance was filed in the Supreme Court today. It contends that the Ordinance has been brought without taking into confidence other political parties and organisations. It argued that the ordinance route can be taken only in extraordinary circumstances demanding urgency and alleged that the objective seems to derive political mileage in an election year. The opposition has questioned the ordinance route taken by the UPA government as only three weeks are left for the commencement of the Monsoon Session of parliament. The petition is likely to come up for hearing this week. According to the government, the main purpose of the ordinance is to provide food at reasonable prices to the poor. UNI
