(UNI) The judicial custody of BCCI chief N Srinivasan son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan and actor Vindoo Dara Singh was today extended by a local court till June 14.
Meiyappan and Vindoo, both suspects in the Indian premier League (IPL) betting scandal, will be housed in Arthur Road jail for the duration of their 11-day remand. The police custody of Meiyappan and Vindoo was to end today. Mumbai Police has been quizzing them on allegations of betting in cricket matches.
The court granted the crime branch plea for extending their remand on grounds that Meiyappan, Vindoo, hawala operator Alpesh Patel and bookie conduit Prem Taneja were needed to be interrogated further to know about the wanted bookies Sanjay Jaipur, Pawan Jaipur and Chandresh Patel alias Jupiter.
The defense counsel had argued that the accused had spent sufficient time in custody for a bailable offense, but the court rejected it.
Meiyappan and Vindoo are believed to have links with another major IPL betting suspect, Chennai hotelier Vikram Aggarwal, alias Victor. Police had earlier questioned Victor and Meiyappan face-to-face.
Also earlier today, Mumbai police have nabbed a major betting suspect Keshu Pune at the Mumbai airport. Kishore Badlani aka Keshu Pune is from the Pune betting syndicate, believed to have links with the Dawood gang. UNI
