consumer_court     UNI) A consumer court has slapped fine of Rs one lakh each on two doctors for medical negligence which severely affected a woman's health. The victim's family had lodged a complaint with West Tripura District Consumer Court in 2006 and the court has passed the order on Wednesday. The victim had been suffering from gynaecological problem since there was cyst in her ovary. After extraction of the cyst, doctors sent it for biopsy in two diagnostic centres of the city and both the accused doctors Dr Sanjay Nath and Dr Sushila Devi diagnosed the cyst as malignant. Accordingly, the patient was administered chemotherapy. When the patient's health deteriorated, doctors referred her to Vellore CMC where it was established that she did not have malignant growth in the body and unnecessary chemotherapy had severely affected her health. After a long treatment, she has recovered now. The court has finally ordered the doctors to pay Rs one lakh each as compensation to the patient's family within a month, failing which they have to pay nine per cent interest along with the principal amount.
