(UNI) A two-judge bench of Calcutta HC asked the state government to file within a week an affidavit on Friday's brutal rape and murder of a college student in Barasat.
The bench comprising of Chief Justice Arun Mishra and Justice Joymalya Bagchi also asked the government what steps it had taken to book the culprits and step up the security in the area lying on the eastern fringe of the city where crime had become a daily feature.
A college student, 20, was allegedly raped and murdered at Kamdoni near Barasat in North 24-Parganas on June 7 when she was returning home.
The bench issued the directive on a PIL moved by lawyer Rabi Sankar Chatterjee.
The PIL prayed for an order on the authorities for setting up a special team to investigate into the incident.
The matter was posted for further hearing after a week. UNI
